Stiles’ NDP will fight rising costs for London families

LONDON – Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles vowed to fight rising costs to help families across London. Stiles spoke to London families at her campaign stop today, along with NDP’s strong London team: Terence Kernaghan (London North Centre), Peggy Sattler (London West), and Teresa Armstrong (London Fanshawe).

“In London, your vote has real power. The power to re-elect strong New Democrat MPPs who will fight for people and reverse seven years of Doug Ford’s neglect. The power to fight rising costs, hire doctors, defend jobs, and fix schools.

After seven long years of Doug Ford, 100,000 people in London are without a family doctor; rent is up 50 per cent; and more than 40 per cent of food bank users are children because groceries and bills for the basics just keeps getting more expensive.

As Premier, I will fight against rising costs to help families get ahead. Our Monthly Grocery Rebate will help put food on the table. Our Family Health Guarantee will see more doctors hired for London families and we’ll end hallway healthcare once and for all.

The Ontario NDP’s platform will help fight rising costs in London:

  • Monthly Grocery Rebate that is based on how much the cost of essential groceries like milk, bread and vegetables have increased under Ford.
  • Bringing in real rent control that closes loopholes and helps people stay in their homes because rent has gone up 52 per cent in London under Ford’s watch.
  • Funding London Transit with 50% of operating costs, to make it more reliable, convenient and affordable. And finally provide two-way all-day GO service.
  • Hiring more family doctors: 102,449 people lack a family doctor in London.
  • Fixing London schools. $642 million repair backlog across all school boards.

Background: Ford left London behind

  • 102,449 people don’t have a doctor in London
  • Rent has gone up 52% in London under Ford
  • 45 people are treated in hallways at London Health Sciences Centre
  • $642 million in school repairs needed in London
  • 40,086 people using Food Banks in London, 40% are children
