NDP MPP Lennox stands with workers and calls for the reversal of cuts to the Hamilton and District Injured Workers’ Group

HAMILTON — After the recent decision by the Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB) to defund the Hamilton and District Injured Workers’ Group, MPP Robin Lennox (Hamilton Centre) stood with advocates and the community today to call on the Ford government and the WSIB to reverse these harmful cuts and instead provide stable and long-term funding for those suffering from workplace injuries across Ontario.

“Injured workers have to navigate some of the most overwhelming and challenging systems to access support, at a time when they are often dealing with pain, fear and anxiety about their future,” said MPP Lennox.

“No worker deserves to be injured on the job in Ontario, and we cannot abandon those who need the support. We need a fair and accessible system that is there for Hamilton workers and that’s why we are calling on WSIB to urgently restore the $92,500 in funding to support injured workers.”

The Hamilton and District Injured Workers’ Group has provided essential support for injured workers for more than 20 years. Injured workers deserve access to a system that supports them and their families, and the Ontario NDP will continue to fight for a fair and accessible system that supports workers in Hamilton and across Ontario.
